Selling Tactics to Make Your Company Grow
By Sandra Turnage – April 15, 2011
Have you ever wondered how a successful business got where it is? The process seems easy enough right? I mean find a building to house what it is you’re trying to sell to the customer, and find people to help you sell it. There is a lot more work involved than you would think.
Let’s take this for an example. Another widely known company is selling the exact same product as you are. How do you stray the customer away from the other store and into yours instead? Well in the customers point of view they are looking at mainly one thing, price. Which store has the lowest price, and which store has the better quality? Depending on the customer, if they really need that item quality might not always matter. Now if it’s more of a luxury item you might be more opted to spend a little more. Everyone is different on how the decide which particular item to buy and from which company they buy it from.
One of the most important tactics to selling anything at all is knowing the customer. It’s a lot easier to sell to someone, when you know what types of things appeal to them. When working one on one it’s important to develop a friendly, intuitive behavior towards the customer. I feel it is also important to be relatable to the customer. If the customer has an issue with the product they have bought its important to let them know that you understand their perspective on the matter. Maintaining a good customer basis will keep that customer coming back to you. Take Neiman Marcus, for example. They are known for having expensive merchandise all over the globe. Consumers flock to them for the quality of the merchandise and the customer service level at large in this company. Another key to a successful sale is product knowledge. If a customer asks you about a product it’s always better to know additional information about that item. If you don’t, then at least appear to. Customers are less likely to buy something if from you if they ask you a simple question about it and you cannot provide them with an answer.
From the perspective of the customer you would want to deal with an associate in said company that has a good demeanor to them. If the associate arrives to work looking sharp, he has a better chance at becoming successful. In previous reports done over the past few years, less attractive people earn 15% less than attractive people do. Not only do appearances matter, but also height ties into appearances. Taller employees average 12% higher than their shorter co workers. Never underestimate the power in the tone of your voice. How well your dialect is and your emotion is portrayed in your voice sets the tone for the sale, whether it be over the phone or in person.
It’s important to build and maintain relationships with the people and companies regardless of their buying time. In today’s time of economic hardships, if a potential client doesn’t buy today we forget about them rather than continue to nurture the relationship for future needs. One thing to keep in mind companies don’t buy, people do. By simply sending a customer a card or dropping a quick call to a client of yours, it lets the customer know you value their business. A second think to think about is that an advisor sells better than a salesperson. A trusted advisor will most always win more sales. A customer is for life. So do what it takes to maintain a good relationship between them and your company. Also, be consistent in every impression you make with the customer.
The New Year brings new marketing strategies. Marketing will continue to move from one-way marketing methods into two-way communication with consumers. Businesses in the growing decade will work closely to monitor our brands and reputations online. Businesses can no longer hind behind the four walls that exist. They must branch out globally to meet with customers growing want to shop online. In order to succeed Company’s will need effective marketing strategies. Social media marketing is becoming increasingly popular, and a great way to advertise your products and services. Over the next decade you should see change in the social media marketing platforms as well as the social media sites that are used.
Because of the struggling economy marketing departments are doing everything they can to lure consumers in. Maintaining good customer relationships is vital to making your Company grow and succeed. The saying you get what you paid for will always remain true. In the road to a company’s often your company will go through trials and tribulations to succeed. It takes constant work to build the database of customers and keep them coming to your company to do business.
